Fun Stuff

Last week I was visiting Happy Zombie's blog (one of my favorite bloggers), and came across the cutest Block of the Month (BOM) pattern! Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs is giving this pattern away for free on her Bunny Tales blog. I couldn't wait to make it. Here is the finished block.

I also made my first trip to the Palmer Wirfs Antique & Collectible Show at the Clark County Fairgrounds. I found a few treasures and this one is my favorite! I have never seen a vintage 'sock monkey' pattern, although this is tattered and torn, I had to have it!!!

this one too...

and this sweet little box...

and this old wood carrier with a great worn handle...

The wood box didn't come with the stuff inside... That is for the Barn House season opener on May 9th. Debbie and I (Worthy Goods) will be there! Mark your calendars!
Hope you had a great weekend!!!

Almost Done

I have been working on this quilt (off and on) for a long time, and I'm happy to say that I am finally at the binding stage! Whoohoo!!! Home stretch...

I always try to get my binding ready before I even start my quilt. That way I am never caught short when it comes to binding. In this case it worked out well because I have been working on it for about 18 months (yikes) and I'm sure I would have a hard time finding more fabric in this line. It's from the Sunshine collection by April Cornell for Moda (in case you were wondering).

Before I can sew the binding on I have to clean up these nasty edges and square up my quilt...

I use a humongous 20 1/2" square ruler for squaring up my quilt. It's great for a quilt like this because my borders were almost 11". I also put painters tape on my ruler so I can find the right measurement quick and avoid scary mistakes!

I always use this handy tool when binding my quilts. It comes out perfect every time!

I like to lower my ironing board and set it next to my sewing machine. It carries the extra weight of my quilt while I'm sewing on the binding. Works great!

Sewing binding on can be really stressful, it's always good to stop for a break :>)...

Almost there...

As many of you excellent quilt teachers say... "it's not a quilt until it's labeled!" It will look better when I'm done, I promise!

The (almost) finished product....

Enjoy your quilt Mom, I had fun making it...

Happy New Year!!!

Resolutions, I'm not so sure about... Making changes, moving forward; always good. How do you approach the New Year? Do you make a list of resolutions or goals. Or do you take it as it comes?

I think I've done it all, but mostly I like to approach the New Year with some worthwhile goal or change. It's exciting, gets the blood moving, keeps me young etc...

We started taking a more relaxed approach by taking a step back and looking at what life was saying to us. For two years the theme that presented itself was "New Things." Just having this mindset opened us up to trying new experiences and saying "yes" to opportunities that have come our way. These are not just big things but small or seemingly inconsequential things too! Like running a half marathon together or going to Vegas for the first time (yes it's true, I'd never been there)!!! Taking my first ski lesson. Even trying a new quilting technique and turning an acquaintance into a friend.

The theme that seems to be presenting itself this year comes in three words. Passion. Revitalize. Restore.

After looking up the definitions and the synonyms for these words I found that they intertwined: Passion-strong interest, drive, enthusiasm. Revitalize - to impart renewed energy and strength to. Restore - to rouse from a state of inactivity or quiescence. Reactivate, reawaken, rekindle, resuscitate, revivify. (Go to http://www.dictionary.com/ if you want to look up your own words).

Do you see a common theme here? What verbs, nouns or adjectives are presenting themselves to you? Pay attention to a common thread that keeps popping up in your life. How can you incorporate these to make your life richer, full of purpose, more exciting?

Wishing you a New Year full of adventure...
