Gary and Laurie's Big Adventure

Tuesday, my handsome, outdoorsy, husband and I decided to go clamming. I've only been once and was excited at the prospect of bringing dinner home. It was a fun and successful day.

The limit is 15 clams per person. At first things went a little slow then we moved up the beach and ended up with 30 clams in about an hour and a half. What a work out! Not only did we get our limit of clams but I found 16 sand dollars as well...

This little guy came to say hello and then goodbye...

We decided to stop at Camp 18 for lunch on the way home. Camp 18 is a huge log restaurant. It has a very rustic feel from the huge rock fire place to the animals carved out of logs.

Gary and I were sitting at our table and by the fire is a couple taking pictures with from what I could see, a really nice camera. I thought to myself, now that is a big a#$ lens! Very impressive. My camera was in the car and now I had this sudden urge to go get it!

I get back with my camera and the tall blonde guy with the big lens is standing near our table. So I lean over and say to him, wow that's a big a#$ lens you have there. (Who does things like that???). He smiles at me politely and says something in a very heavy accent. To my relief he didn't understand what I had said. We started camera and small talk and learned that he and his wife were here refereeing a fencing tournament in Portland. They were from Chicago, but originally from Poland (thus the accent).

Soon he had Gary and I in front of the fire taking pictures with my camera using his big a#$ lens! What a thrill...

After lunch and the (almost embarrassing) camera lesson we headed on down the road only to be stopped for a half hour in this traffic accident. We were literally stopped, I even got out of the car to take a few pictures (nobody was hurt, it was just a trailer full of mulch all over the road)...

The best part of the day was eating the clams! There are no pictures because we ate them too fast...

Too funny! I often have "lens envy" too...I just have to remind myself it's not the size of the lense, but eye of the photographer that matters most (or something like that). ;o)

Great seeing you yesterday! Looking forward to good times this week...

P.S. - Joe put the evil eye on the window I got from you and one of the panes broke on the way home! :o(

You brought back memories for me of clam digging... so I had to go read your profile... and amazingly I was born in Oregon City. So now you have brought back a flood of memories for me-thanks!

What a wonderful day! We love, love, love Camp 18, and don't stop as often as we'd like. Crazy thing, we make an effort to go there rather then stop on the way to/from Portland. Convenience is not our middle name.

I should have coastal living license revoked... I've never been clamming. We've watched... but have never clammed. Love looking at your photos of it! And so funny about the big a$$ lens.
