and a little peek at some of the interesting and lovely finds we have for you...

I found myself getting lost in these great books... The first one is the WLS Prairie Farmer Family Album and Almanac from 1949.

There is a page for each month with all kinds of information and tidbits including the schedule for the type of moon and 'dates and best hours for fishing'. There are historical events listed on each page and a section titled Dr. Holland says:

Here are a few more fun and interesting books I've found on my shopping travels... these are the Modern Guide to Cooking Encyclopedias (I think they were published in 1949)...

This is my favorite...

The Etiquette book was published in 1945. Here is a short sample of what you will find when reading this fascinating look back to a different era! The chapter is titled Greetings and the topic is Greetings in Church...

People do not greet each other in church, except at a wedding. At weddings people do speak to friends sitting near them, in a low tone. It would be shocking to enter a church and hear a babel of voices.

Ordinarily in church, if a friend happens to catch your eye, you may perhaps smile, but never actually bow. If you go to a church not your own and a stranger offers you a seat in her pew, you should, on leaving, turn to her and say, "thank you." But you do not greet any one until you are out on the church steps, when you naturally speak to your friends as you encounter them.
This book also gives a glimpse back in time. Published in 1958, I'm sure it was a must have for every new bride! It's titled:

Apparently it was given to this lucky couple! Look at that gorgeous handwriting...

I started this post quite a while ago, it shouldn't be taking me so long, but you see I got lost in these books again while figuring out which excerpts to post!

Come browse through these and our other treasures at the Vintage Secrets Sale!
See you Saturday,

Not speaking to anyone, including friends, in church. LOL. Well, times sure have changed! Glimpses back into our past is priceless. Great blog.
